MIUI 11 9.10.17 brings Android 10 to the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE and adds Focus Mode to reduce distractions

Late last month, Xiaomi showcased some of its newest products at an event in China. Alongside the Mi Mix Alpha and the Mi 9 Pro 5G, the company also announced MIUI 11. The company’s latest Android skin brings a ton of improvements and new features compared to MIUI 10, and it’s slowly making its way to devices worldwide. Xiaomi has already rolled out beta MIUI builds (based on Android 7.1 and above) to a number of devices. These include the Xiaomi Mi 8, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Earlier this month, we also learned that the company was planning to roll out Android 10 based builds for these devices. Now, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE has also joined the ranks and has received a beta build of MIUI 11 based on Android 10.

The closed beta nightly (MIUI 11 version 9.10.17) for the Mi 9 SE brings Android 10 exclusive features like a system-wide dark theme, new gesture navigation, and more. One of the most interesting additions to MIUI 11 in this build is the new Focus Mode which will help you set your phone aside and concentrate on important tasks. The Focus Mode works quite a lot like the Zen Mode on OnePlus devices. It will essentially turn your phone into a brick for a set duration during which you’ll only be able to make emergency calls, take photos, or answer incoming calls. The mode currently allows you to choose from five different time intervals ranging from 20 minutes to 60 minutes. It’s also worth noting that once you enable Focus Mode, you won’t be able to cancel it.

Since the current MIUI 11 build is a part of the closed beta channel, you might have to wait a while before they hit the stable channel. However, if you have a Mi 9 SE and can’t wait to try out Android 10 on your device, you can download the ROM from the link below and manually flash it on your phone.
